Program Details
The following categories represent most of what our volunteers do. In addition to the tasks however our volunteers prove to our clients that they are neither alone nor forgotten. One of the most important intangible services our volunteers provide is hope.
Light Housework
Definition: Volunteers perform routine cleaning tasks, which may include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning countertops, washing dishes, dusting, washing windows, and laundry (in-home).
Does not typically include: Deep cleaning, packing or unpacking boxes, sorting or organizing paperwork
Monthly Maximum: 3 hours / 2 sessions
Yard Work
Definition: Volunteers perform basic yard maintenance tasks, which may include mowing, edging, weeding, trimming hedges, raking leaves, and light gardening.
Does not typically include: Landscaping projects such as removing shrubbery or trees
Monthly Maximum: 3 hours / 1 session
Minor Home Repair
Definition: Volunteers perform minor home maintenance and repairs including painting, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry services.
Does not typically include: Installation of adaptive equipment, construction or renovation
Monthly Maximum: 1 repair
Meal Preparation
Definition: Volunteers prepare basic meals for clients, either in their own home or in the client’s home.
Monthly Maximum: 4 hours
Transportation by Appointment
Definition: Volunteers, using their own vehicle, transport clients to and from pre-approved destinations including medical appointments, picking up prescriptions, and running other errands.
Monthly Maximum: 6 destinations / 4 trips
(i.e. Post Office = 1 destination/1 trip; Medical Appointment + Grocery Shopping = 2 destinations/1 trip)
Shopping / Errands
Definition: Volunteers may do grocery shopping, laundry (outside of the home), and other errands for clients who are unable to accompany the volunteer.
Monthly Maximum: 4 hours / 2 sessions
